Gold trading hours depend on the product and provider. A bullion shop, an exchange-traded futures contract and an XAUUSD CFD can have different calendars. Before planning a trade, identify the exact instrument, the entity servicing your account and the time zone used in its schedule.
Which gold market do you mean?
Physical gold purchases follow the seller’s quotation and fulfilment arrangements. Futures follow the named exchange and contract calendar. For a CFD, use your provider’s instrument specification. A chart that still displays a price does not by itself establish that your account can execute an order.
A provider-specific XAUUSD example
OANDA UK lists XAU/USD at 18:05–16:59 New York time, Sunday–Friday. The UTC conversion below illustrates that schedule, excluding holiday changes; it is not a universal gold timetable or a recommendation of an account.
| New York offset | Start in UTC | End next day in UTC |
|---|---|---|
| EDT, UTC−4 | 22:05 | 20:59 |
| EST, UTC−5 | 23:05 | 21:59 |
The first UTC session starts Sunday evening and the final session ends Friday evening. Between weekday sessions, the implied break is 20:59–22:05 during EDT or 21:59–23:05 during EST. The weekend closure is longer.
Convert a date, not just a clock reading
Use America/New_York and your destination time zone with the actual trading date. NIST gives the 2026 US DST dates as March 8–November 1, with transitions at 02:00 local time. A saved UTC offset can therefore become wrong. If your own region also changes clocks, its transition dates may differ; check the conversion again around those dates.
Futures and holidays need separate checks
Do not apply a CFD timetable to a futures contract. For example, Thailand’s Gold Online Futures has its own TFEX contract specification. Use the relevant exchange’s current calendar, including expiry-day rules. For a CFD, consult the holiday notice issued for your account entity and instrument.
Is there a best hour to trade gold?
An open session is not a promise of favourable execution or profit. Keep a demo journal with the time zone, observed spread and execution results, then compare periods when you can monitor a position. Treat an economic release as an event to investigate, not an automatic signal. A routine you can follow matters more than a generic claim about the best session.
Before placing an order
- Confirm the instrument and server time shown in your platform.
- Check maintenance breaks, holidays and the next reopening date.
- Read financing cutoffs separately from trading hours.
- Plan for gaps: an ordinary stop does not guarantee its execution price.
